Here at Cambridge we have several annual holiday traditions that bring us all together to give thanks for our blessings, share with others and have a little departmental competition.   The festivities actually start shortly after Thanksgiving when the Human Resources department delivers Christmas trees to each department of the company.

Each department decorates their tree and the winner is judged by employee ballots the day of our Christmas luncheon held in December.  The only rule we have to follow when decorating our trees is that it must be decorated with items from our department.   As you can imagine this leads to some very secretive strategizing and unusually decorated trees!

The Tree of Christmas Past

The winner this year was the Sales & Customer Experience Department whose tree theme was Cambridge Past and a few of the people whose dedication has been steadfast.  It was decorated with longtime customer logos from snack products eaten upstairs and pictures of members of the sales and service team from the archives (and I do mean the archives).  The runner up was the Finance department who decorated their tree with money they had created with team member faces on it.

While we all enjoy the competition between departments, we’d all agree that more important than the tree however, is what’s attached to the box the tree comes in.   Each year Cambridge International sponsors local families and their children. We work with the local schools, churches and families suggested by employees. Each department is given an envelope that has details about their child.  It can include age, clothing sizes, special interests, and toys they would like to get from Santa.  Each year the teams do what they can to make special memories for their child. We shop together, wrap together and give thanks together that we are fortunate enough to be able to help others. This year we were able to make the holiday’s bright for 15 children in our community. On November 14 at the Main Street Gallery in Cambridge the community was given a chance to sneak a peek at “The Wave of the Future” which has been designed and fabricated to commemorate the 325th Anniversary of the City of Cambridge, MD.  Designed by artist Martin Hughes and fabricated by Cambridge International team members, the sculpture will officially be presented to the City of Cambridge on December 11th at Sailwinds Park during the closing ceremony for what has been a year long celebration for the city.
